Going back to writing blog posts more regularly. #writing #blog

With the combination of having overslept and daylight savings time, it’s foolish to think that I’m going to get to sleep on time tonight. I’ll go ahead and break my rule of not using a device with a back-lit screen an hour before bedtime. I don’t honestly know when that’s going to be. Hell, it wouldn’t be the first time that I didn’t get a full night’s sleep before going into work. I’m more worried about my dentist appointment afterwards. I would hate to fall asleep when getting my teeth cleaned.

But I didn’t want to skip writing blog posts at all this weekend. I did yesterday for no good reason other than laziness. You’ll notice that I wrote one for every other day this week. I partly wanted to make up for not writing so many in the two-week period prior to that. But I also decided to try getting back into writing a blog post six days a week. I’m in the editing phase with the novel right now. I have somebody else looking at it to help with editing and feedback so I won’t be writing for it. I have other writing projects that I’ve put off editing for the sake of writing that book. I’ll use this week to work on those so hopefully soon I’ll get around to self-publishing them online.

That means I won’t actually get much new writing done. In the interest of writing on a daily (or near-daily) basis I’m writing for this blog much more regularly. I don’t know how long I’ll do so but it will be at least until I start work on a new writing project. I do have a rough story idea that I might want to flesh out into an outline so I might take time for that as well. It’s a new take on that other novel that I wrote called The Gallery. However, I have other elements to introduce which may even radically change the story so I don’t know if I would really call it an updated version of it. I’m only using The Gallery as a starting off point. It’s too soon to tell.

I’m also not going to kick myself anymore for missing a day or two with this blog. I need to stop thinking of this as the most important part of my writing life. Actually, I have, but for a long time I kept the attitude that I was somehow obliged to write a blog post every day even when I had other things more important to do. It’s good to keep the habit going, especially as the whole point of this blog in the first place is that its my writing practice. However, the new guideline is “six days a week if I can.” I’ll still try to stick to a minimum of five-hundred words. I’ll try not to make them all nonsense just for the sake of having filler. I usually find when I get going on a subject that I’m interested in it’s hard to write less than that. Seeing that this isn’t that much of an interesting topic, I’m going to end this one now.
