I don’t have a whole lot to report on this week in terms of my writing progress. I have been working on my screenplay—not as quickly as I like, but I have been working on it. Tonight I opted to spend the money at a coffee shop downtown. I had another errand to run anyway, but I just find that I get more productive writing here than I do at home sometimes. Why is that? Of course my situation with not having a good writing space or chair at home is a great concern. However, I think there’s also something to be said about a change of scenery. There’s also the lack of distractions I have at home. Sure, I’m out in public and can hear everybody around me talking. But I can tune all of that out. Besides, people watching can be a productive distraction. It’s certainly more productive than watching music videos on YouTube all evening.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in favor of taking breaks. In fact, I’m intending on taking a break from writing over the next week or so because I desperately need to perform some housecleaning in the apartment. I’m not just talking about the usual picking up and cleaning. All of that is well and good, but for a long time I’ve been disgusted at how many material objects I have lying around in the attic or in closets or in drawers that aren’t doing me any good. So now I have the distraction from writing anyway that I have this big project that I want to take care of. I wanted to have another yard sale this year but I don’t think I’m going to make any money off of these things. Instead, I’m just going to donate to thrift shops and so forth.
One thing I’m not giving away right off is my collection of board games. I have several that I have accumulated via presents over the years that I haven’t played with anybody. I would like to actually set up board game night once a week with family and/or friends for a few months just to play through these things, to see if I still want to keep them. It will be weird to have such a social activity for such reasons. But hey, maybe I’ll want to keep some of the games after all.
Because of this project I may not have a Writing Progress Wednesday next week. That’s fine, though, as I may not have the book review done in time for Monday. I just set up this new format and I’m already messing around with it.
So, in conclusion, the screenplay is progressing slowly but surely. I’m still in the first draft. Buy my e-books. There are links in the upper left-hand corner.
